Batilda Announced, Gothest Mobile Release Date, Holographic Pastel Goth Cards on the Way, New Characters in the Works & NFTs on Todd McFarlane’s Oddkey
Happy new year to all!
Lots has been going on since our last update.
In case you missed it, we recently announced a new guide character named Batilda who will help you on your Gothest journey.
This character was made specifically to be voiced by a certain seiyuu, who will remain anonymous until the digital release, but suffice it to say she is a prominent Youtuber & Twitch streamer who is known for J-music.
As for the release itself, we are currently planning on Valentine’s Day, 2022.
In December, we were hoping to make it in time for the solstice, then New Years Day, but our programmer, Bill White’s hands got tied with the birth of his daughter, so we moved it out a little bit to give him some quality time with his family over the holidays.
Unlike past projected completion dates, we now have a functioning build for what is essentially the game’s story mode. It still needs the frills of additional animations, sound effects & music changes, but it works. The remainder of January will be spent adding these frills & the additional modes/features of the game such as PVP, the in-game shoppe & the score calculator for players of the physical edition of Gothest.
Thank you for your patience, but we don’t want to keep you waiting for the game any longer so in the unlikely event that these extraneous additional modes are not completed in time, we still want to release the game on Valentine’s Day, so we will upload whatever we have in time to make that deadline & add any missing modes in a later update as necessary.
In addition to the mobile game seeing release, we are putting the final touches on our holographic Pastel Edition of Gothest physical in hopes of a concurrent release on Valentine’s Day.
All but the character cards in the Pastel Edition will be pink-backed & ALL card types will feature shiny, holographic foil.
Once we finish up these last few touches, we will place a proofing order with our manufacturer &, upon approval, make them available for sale on Gothest.com, eBay, Etsy & Rebels Market. Beware that they won’t come cheap, however. Manufacturing costs for holographic foil cards are literally double those for standard cards. Still, we want these cards — which are fully compatible with standard decks, by the way — in our players’ hands, so we will keep pricing competitive with current market rates as much as possible to help make them available to those who want them. For those that don’t, our standard decks & booster packs remain a more economical option.
Moving on, production of the digital game has taken so long that our artist, zero, has already made great headway in drafting up the characters for what could be considered Gothest 2. We are more than doubling the amount of available characters for this 2nd edition. Batilda was an early arrival from that, but here’s a sneak peek at another.
There’s still a long way to go before you will see the rest of the new characters, though. This expansion will come out maybe a year or 2 after the initial release, though new Goth Cards are planned to be released at regular intervals.
To wrap things up, you may have wondered why we haven’t jumped on to the NFT bandwagon yet, when our characters are so fitting. The reason is simple: we were way ahead of the curve, having announced our NFT plans 2 years ago along with minting & trademarking our proprietary cryptocurrency.
This is a project entirely separate from the Gothest mobile game, which first needs to start generating revenue to allow for its own continued production in addition to the separate, NFT-environment Gothest — which needs a larger budget to get moving.
However, an unlikely player recently entered the arena, who may change the game; the Toddfather himself, Todd McFarlane. McFarlane — best known as the creator of Spawn, & who is also a hometown hero to Gothest creator Necrolicious, who took his namesake from a line in a Spawn video game — & his recently announced Solana-based NFT exchange called Oddkey just might provide the perfect venue for Gothest NFTs separate from the standard Gothest games & the NFT-based Gothest game, whilst providing the funding needed to continue all of our projects.
This is mere speculation at this point, but if ever there was a non-proprietary place for Gothest, it’s with Oddkey. That said, we are wait-listed for launch & eager to explore our options as soon as they become available. Expect a separate announcement when that time comes.
All of the above is a lot for you to take in, & we have a lot left to work on, so this is expected to be the final update before release.
Thank you again for all of your support & patience! We wish all of you the best for the coming year!
